The outer ring raceway of NTN self-aligning ball bearings forms a spherical surface whose center is common to the bearing center. The inner ring of the bearing has two raceways. NTN tapered roller bearings are designed such that their conical rollers and raceways are arranged so that all elements of the roller and raceway cones meet at a common apex on the bearing axis. The rollers are guided by the contact between the large end of the roller and the rib on the inner ring (cone). Both metric and inch systems are standardized by bearing series and both systems are widely used. The metric system is specified in ISO (ISO 355) and JIS 1512, and the inch system (including J-series) is standardized in AFBMA standard.

Besides, by suitably setting the contact condition of the rollers with the raceway ring, not only is edge loading prevented, a certain misalignment between the inner and outer rings caused by mounting erro rcan be permitted. The allowable misalignment fo rNTN tapered roller bearing is about 0.0005 radian (0°, 1.5′) fo rsingle row orback-to-back arrangement and 0.001 radian (0°, 3.5′)  fo rface-to-face arrangement. Cylindrical roller bearings with cage(fag bearings)
Single row cylindrical roller bearings with cage are units comprising solid inner and outer rings together with cylindrical roller and cage assemblies. The outer rings have rigid ribs on both sides or are without ribs, the inner rings have one or two rigid ribs or are designed without ribs. The cage prevents the cylindrical rollers coming into contact with each other during rolling.

The cylindrical roller bearings are very rigid, can support high radial loads and, due to the cage, are suitable for higher speeds than the full complement designs. Bearings with suffix E have a larger roller set and are thus designed for extremely high load carrying capacity.

The bearings can be taken apart and can therefore be fitted and dismantled more easily. Both bearing rings can therefore have an interference fit.

Single row cylindrical roller bearings with cage are available as non-locating, semi-locating and locating bearings.

Low-friction cylindrical roller bearings
Low-friction cylindrical roller bearings LSL and ZSL are single row, self-retaining and correspond to dimension series 23. The bearings have solid outer rings with two ribs, while the inner rings have one rib. The inner ring can be removed and this gives easier fitting of the bearings. Disc cages or spacers prevent the cylindrical rollers coming into contact with each other during rolling.

High precision cylindrical roller bearings
Cylindrical roller bearings of this type are double row precision bearings for machine tools. They allow radially rigid, high precision bearing arrangements and are mainly used for the radial support of main spindles.

The bearings comprise solid outer rings without ribs, solid inner rings with three ribs and cylindrical roller and cage assemblies with solid brass cages. For optimum setting of the radial internal clearance, the inner ring has a tapered bore with a taper of 1:12. The cylindrical roller bearings can be dismantled and are therefore easier to fit and remove. Both bearing rings can therefore have an interference fit.

Full complement cylindrical roller bearings(ina bearings)
Full complement cylindrical roller bearings have solid inner and outer rings and rib-guided cylindrical rollers. Since these bearings have the largest possible number of rolling elements, they have extremely high radial load carrying capacity, high rigidity and are suitable for particularly compact designs. Due to their kinematic conditions, however, they cannot achieve the high speeds that are possible when using cylindrical roller bearings with cage.

Full complement cylindrical roller bearings are available as non-locating, semi-locating and locating bearings and in single and double row designs.

Cylindrical roller bearings with snap ring grooves
Cylindrical roller bearings with snap ring grooves are full complement, self-retaining units comprising solid inner and outer rings, rib-guided cylindrical rollers and sealing rings.

The outer rings have grooves for retaining rings. The inner rings are axially split, 1 mm wider than the outer rings and are held together by a steel strip that is rolled into place.

Locating bearings

Cylindrical roller bearings with snap ring grooves are locating bearings. These bearings are highly rigid and can support axial forces in both directions as well as high radial forces.

Due to the full complement design of these bearings, they have the largest possible number of rolling elements and thus extremely high basic dynamic and static load ratings. Due to their kinematic conditions, however, they cannot achieve the high speeds that are possible when using cylindrical roller bearings with cage.

Bearings for cable sheaves

Due to the grooves in the outer ring, the bearing rings can be axially located with ease. The bearings are therefore very suitable in bearing arrangements for cable sheaves.

Needle roller bearings are single or double row units comprising machined outer rings with ribs, needle roller and cage assemblies and removable inner rings. The bearings are available in open and sealed versions.

Needle roller bearings without ribs

Needle roller bearings without ribs are single or double row units comprising machined outer rings without ribs, needle roller and cage assemblies and removable inner rings.

The bearings are not self-retaining. This means that the outer ring, needle roller and cage assembly and inner ring can be fitted independently of each other.

Aligning needle roller bearings

Aligning needle roller bearings are units comprising drawn outer cups, plastic support rings with a concave inner profile, outer rings with a spherical outside surface, needle roller and cage assemblies and removable inner rings.

The bearings can compensate static shaft misalignments and can thus tolerate misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing.

Aligning needle roller bearings are firmly seated in the housing bore. The bore can therefore be produced easily and economically.

Combined needle roller bearings

Combined needle roller bearings are units comprising radial needle roller bearings with a rolling bearing component capable of supporting axial loads.

Inner rings

Inner rings are made from hardened rolling bearing steel and have precision machined or ground raceways.

They are used where:

the shaft cannot be used as a raceway with needle roller and cage assemblies, drawn cup needle roller bearings with open ends, drawn cup needle roller bearings with closed end and needle roller bearings
needle roller bearings must be combined with wider inner rings in order to facilitate axial displacement of the shaft in relation to the housing
optimum running surfaces are required for the seal lips.

Inner rings, precision machined

In inner rings IR, the raceway is precision machined. Chamfers on the end faces allow easy insertion into the bearings and prevent damage to the seal lips of the bearings. The inner rings are available with and without a lubrication hole.

Inner rings, ground

In inner rings LR, the raceway is ground. The end faces are turned and the edges are broken. These rings have larger tolerances than the rings of series IR. They are therefore suitable for applications that permit larger tolerances for width and less demanding requirements for axial runout.

NEW YORK (Associated Press) – The Timken Co., which makes engineered bearings (Deep Groove Ball Bearings Tapered Roller Bearings )and alloy and specialty steel products, said Monday its senior vice president of innovation and growth will leave the company amid a restructuring.

Jacqueline A. Dedo will leave, effective March 31.

Timken said the move is part of a reorganization of the innovation and growth division.

In January, Timken said fourth-quarter earnings rose more than 36 percent, helped by strong industrial sales.

Shares fell 26 cents to $29.27 during aftermarket trading, after closing up 49 cents at $29.53.
